September, 22 2002 – Azib Likemt – Tacheddirt

On our second to last day, the wake up is still early. I hardly close my eyes as the wind was terrible. So I wake up with a bad day face and it is really cold on this morning. We have our usual breakfast with a warm tea prepared by Mohammed with some bread covered with chocolate paste. This ritual overjoys us from the beginning.

We pack the tents very quickly and we start the ascent in direction of Tacheddirt. The wind is icy and we are the first one to leave the bivouac. All the groups are going to Amsouzerte.

The only difficulty of the day (and the last one) is the pass of Tizi Likemt (3 555m). The ascent is steep and is qualified in the trailblazer guidebook as one of the “punishing ascent” of the trek. At the beginning I have no problem to follow the rhythm initiated by the mule but after a while I am dropped out from the group. I try to follow Isabelle but I can’t no problem I will join them at the top with some delay.

At the pass : wind and icy temperature!!!

Finally we arrive at the pass at 9:30. There is an icy wind that freezes us. We try to find some shelter behind rocks but it is not enough. So we decide to start the descent very quickly to find back some warmer temperatures. Mohammed tells us that it is the beginning of the winter and that such temperatures are the heralding intense cold in the area in the coming days.

The view from the pass was great and we see the ski tow or chairlift from the well known ski resort of Oukaïmeden. During the descent the view is one of the greatest of the whole trek.

During the descent, we see some familiar faces and, with surprise, we recognize Lahcen with a group of trekkers who is doing the same trek but on the other direction. He asks us about our trek and how we feel during the last days. We are all very happy and he can see our smiles on our faces as the answer. He is also happy that everything was ok with Mohammed and wishes us a nice to our visit of Morocco. We say goodbye and see you next time who knows Inch’Allah!!!

Finally the journey was short as we arrive just 4:30 after our departure. Kevin and Isabelle walk down towards the village as I sleep well under the sun.

Tonight for the last meal, we decide to use all our food like a feast: Rice + fouls, pasta + tomato sauce + Vache Qui Rit (Cheese), chocolate fondue with apple pieces, mint tea… the whole thing with fresh bread given by a group.

The atmosphere is very relax and everything has a taste of an end.

Tonight we can sleep as tomorrow journey will be a piece of cake.
