July 7, 2002 – Felucca (Kom Ombo) |

Despite
the humidity and a cool temperature for a month of July in Egypt, I slept
without a bag. We are all awake for the sunset in front of us. A great one!! After a
solid breakfast: Bread, cheese, pancakes, watermelon… and the traditional tea,
we resume our trip at a highest speed because today there is a lot of wind
and instead of going from a bank to another we will sail in a straight line. Just
before Kom Ombo, some of us decide to go and see the camel market in Daraw
but I prefer to stay on the boat til Kom Ombo maybe I will have regrets but…
I will save things to do when I will come back!!! We stop
at Kom Ombo where, with Salim, we are the only one to visit the temple. It is
the first time that I see some colors on the columns or n the walls. Kombo
has a unique structure because, in fact, it is the juxtaposition of two
symmetric temples: the first one is dedicated to Horus, the falcon god and
the second one is dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god. These temples are
still beautiful and well preserved after all these millenniums. Kom

Kom Ombo temple We come
back on the boat and we resume our trip on the river. What an
experience !! You must have to sail down the Nile for 2 days, that is
really one of the thing to do there, you are out of time in a complete
different world, enjoying the view and relaxing on the mattresses. We all
enjoy the latest moments of pleasure on the boat because tonight it is the
end of the trip. We stop
at about 20km south of Edfu. A minibus will drive us there tomorrow morning
and then we will reach Luxor. It is the last evening all together, good
atmosphere. Mohammed is a great performer doing magic and he shows us many
different games. I join Jorge and Salim on the front deck to enjoy the stars
in the sky trying to find some shooting stars there. Tonight
it is no more humid and the temperature is really good. Main expenses of the day : Kom Ombo entrance : 5 EGP (student fare)
otherwise 10 EGP |
